Wisconsin Rut Report
Dave Bechtel of Chase Nation TV provides a whitetail rut update for Wisconsin.
Location: southern Wisconsin
Rut stage: post rut Current buck movement: 6/10 Projected buck movement: 8/10 The week leading up to gun season, we saw a number of mature bucks that were locked down with does. We're currently finding the occasional buck chasing and nudging younger does and fawns. Overall, though, movement has been limited.
Because some younger does that will start cycling for the first time, I think we're going to see more buck activity soon. During that window, there will also be some mature does that will cycle. I expect to see the occasional chasing buck in the early part of the month.
Strategies for hunting the next couple of weeks are going to be focused on getting on food sources. As the temps drop and snow appears, the deer bedding will shift closer to food. Hunters need to think about stand locations now so they can capitalize on hungry deer in December. As gun pressure is felt by deer, it'll be crucial to know very specific travel routes because of limited daylight movement.
